ETAP STAR provides intelligent protective device coordination and device selectivity. STAR has an intuitive and logical approach to Time Current Characteristic (TCC) analysis with features and capabilities such as user-friendly graphic interface, equation-based device modeling, an extensive device library that is Verified & Validated, analysis tools embedded within STAR, and integrated rule-based design.

ETAP STAR assists with identifying potential false trips, relay mis-operation (relay coordination), and mis-coordination.

A first of its kind, Sequence of Operation , enables users to visually identify which device operates in order, given the location of a fault anywhere in the system. It enables a documented path for backup devices in case the primary protective device fails to trip. This highly-intelligent tool, provides a method to theoretically test all protective device settings and double-check coordination plans.

Sequence of Operation Software

Settings and device selectivity of protective devices and associated equipment is evaluated using Sequence of Operation. Sequence of Operation then enables users to verify and confirm the operation of the protective devices for any location and for any type of fault.

Operating times are calculated based upon settings characteristics, and device interlocks for a specified fault location and type.

Normalized time current curve shift graphically displays curves in relation to one and another for a given fault

Sequence of Event Viewer

The operating sequence for devices is automatically calculated based upon the fault location, and operating status (breaker and switch settings) of the system. This is dynamically linked with the electrical one-line diagram to perform a complete set of actions to respond to a fault This includes internal shifting (normalizing) of each time current curve based upon the fault contribution level for each device individually.
